Supplied with a stepped-bore threaded thermal barrier and a custom designed Type-K thermocouple, the Tecto heater block allows the thermocouple to be securely mounted and electrically insulated which allows for a safer 3D printing environment.
The Tecto heater block is designed to work with either the 12V or 24V heater cartridges (not included) and is compatible with all nozzles and cooling blocks that have an M6 thread.
The Tecto vs the T-Shaped heater block
The primary difference between the Tecto and the T-shaped heater block is the thermocouple management.
The T-shaped heater block offers improved thermal dynamics (vs stock heater blocks) and is easier to install since it allows the use of the typical M3/M4 threaded thermocouples supplied as stock on most machines.
The problem with the M3/M4 stock thermocouples is that they are prone to failure and typically fail by falling out of their M3/M4 threaded thermowells whilst printing. This type of failure is extremely dangerous as is can lead to thermal runaway that could result in the heater cartridge reaching temperatures capable of melting the aluminium heater block – if not worse!
The second common failure happens when the thermocouple is not correctly ‘unground’ and the heater cartridge is badly insulated. If the wires of the thermocouple and heater cartridge make contact, the voltage supplied to the heater cartridge will travel along the thermocouple and destroy the thermocouple chip or the entire controller board.
The Tecto is supplied with a far safer thermocouple design which is not prone to the same failure as the typical thermocouple. The Tecto’s thermocouple is correctly ‘unground’ and is easier to attach / remove, making servicing the heater block easier and reducing the risk of thermocouple failure.
